Institute Ethics

The overwhelming majority of Georgia Tech and University System of Georgia (USG) employees are committed to ethical conduct in their work on behalf of the Institute and the USG. On an annual basis, all Georgia Tech faculty, staff and student employees must affirm this commitment and acknowledge their understanding of the ethical standards required of them. Given this commitment to ethical conduct, leadership owes all employees a clear statement of the values and expectations to which we all will be held accountable.

Georgia Institute of Technology Code of Ethics

Georgia Tech is entrusted by students, parents, taxpayers, sponsors, alumni, donors, and friends with resources and with the responsibility to fulfill our mission of education, research, public service, and economic development. This trust and responsibility require a commitment to ethical standards to assure others that our activities are executed in the best interest of those who support us and of those we serve. As an Institute, and individually as representatives of Georgia Tech, we operate with the following expected standards of conduct:

  • Honesty and transparency in all of our dealings
  • Respect for ourselves and each other
  • Excellence in all we do
  • Personal responsibility and accountability for our actions
  • Integrity in our teaching, research activities, and stewardship of the resources entrusted to us

The executive officers, faculty, staff, student employees, and affiliated individuals at the Georgia Institute of Technology are expected to abide by its policies and Code of Ethics, as well as any state, federal and, when applicable, international laws, in the performance of job-related duties. Specifically, we will:

  • Abstain from inappropriate activities that may affect the conscientious performance of our duties or that result in illicit personal gain.
  • Refuse to accept, for ourselves or our families, any favors, gifts, or privileges that might be construed by reasonable persons as influencing the performance of our assigned Institute duties.
  • Behave in a manner consistent with our institutional values.
  • Make no unauthorized commitments on behalf of the Institute.
  • Report violations of the Georgia Tech Code of Ethics through appropriate channels.
